Man Versus Nature

The second Battle for the Underground, Man Vs Nature, represented the tenacity to overcome a flooded facility. Held days before a total solar eclipse, it was hosted at Crystal City Underground, a former sand mine in Crystal City, Missouri, by the Motley Crew Vault Club on August 19, 2017. There was no prize money. It was just a straight up bragging rights competition to see who could lay claim to the underground. Seventy vaulters representing 13 states and 2 countries registered. In the end, returning champion Jeff Coover bested his previous height of 5.35m (an American underground record shared with Sam Kendricks) with a vault of 5.50m. On the women's side, Jacqueline Williams tied the overall underground record of 4.10m.
